Provice of Siquijor : Isla del Fuego (Island of Fire)




Siquijor 


Located in the Central Visayas region. Its capital is the municipality also named Siquijor. To the north of Siquijor is Cebu, to the west is Negros, northeast is Bohol, and to the south, across the Bohol Sea, is Mindanao.

Spaniards called the island Isla del Fuego (Island of Fire) during the Spanish Colonial Era. 

The province is commonly associated with mystic traditions and  mountain-dwelling healers (Mangkukulam) who brew traditional ointments for modern ailments. It has a long-time reputation as a place of magic and sorcery.

Province of Siquijor is composed of  6 municipalities. Namely Enrique Villanueva, Larena, Lazi, Maria, San Juan and it's provincial capital Siquijor. 

Cebuano is the main language/dialect that is being used. People also speaks Filipino/Tagalog and English.

Transportation

Jeepney and Tricycle is the primary mode of transportation in the province.

Siquijor has three major seaports; The Larena Port that caters boat plying Siquijor Port to Dumaguete, Lilo-an, Cebu and Plaridel; the Siquijor Pier catering Siquijor to Dumaguete and Cebu boats; and the Lazi Port, catering Lazi to Mindanao boat. Other wharves are the Solangon and Tambisan Warves, in San Juan and Siquijor towns respectively. 

The only airport is the Siquijor Airport located at Cang-alwang, Siquijor, Siquijor which is near completion and is said to operate soon. There are no scheduled services at present.
