Philippines' first ever Olympic gold medal


On July 26, 2021 the entire country celebrated the victory of an empowered and truly strong woman. Hidilyn Diaz took home the very first Olympic gold medal for the Philippines. She won the women's 55 kg category for weightlifting at the 2020 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo, Japan.

Hearing the Philippines national anthem "Lupang Hinirang" in Olympics was a momentous event for every Filipinos.


Hidilyn is not the only empowered Filipina visible on the Olympic stage. Mikee Cojuangco-Jaworski was also on the world stage representing the Philippine flag as the sports official gave the weightlifter her gold medal. Mikee is an athlete and a gold medalist herself for the individual jumping equestrian event at the 2002 Asian Games in South Korea. She currently seats as one of the executive board in the International Olympic Committee (IOC). 

It was such a breath of fresh air to see two successful Filipino woman in the worlds stage.
